an excerpt from the proclaimer's book, an amazing piece of historical fiction, pp 350-351.

"the watch tower society has always endeavored to use all the resources at its disposal to further the preaching of the good news... right down to the present, the organization uses available funds to send out traveling overseers to fortify the congregations and to encourage them in their public ministry....it also uses whatever funds are available to send special pioneers into areas where little or no preaching of the kingdom message has yet been done.

What about travel ? Raymond Franz reports in his books that he and all the GB members often took 'Zone Trips' - and it sounds like these were no low-cost affairs at times. Some of the brothers that I knew at Bethel could not afford to make it there without help from home - the weekly cost of subway fare was actually more than they were given - and they had to make meetings at congregations throughout NY three times a week. They sometimes had to hitch-hike to get home on vacations.

Equal treatment? I doubt that.

Who is the new President of the Watchtower Society? And are there 7 new org

i have been wondering who is the president of the watchtower society?

my mother told me that milton henschel died in 1993 and i have not heard of anybody ever replacing him?

my mom also told me that the society has 7 new corporations within the watchtower society.

In my humble opinion, there may be other forces at work here too. I think the WTS would like to be considered 'mainstream' - it adds credibility. These corporate fronts add some bogus legs to that effort.

In addition, I have noticed in several press releases and official reports from the watchtower that they, not infrequently, have referred to the organization as 'the church'. Another ploy for credibility. Could that be the game here?

Looks like Russell was at least giving some credit to the 'churches' at that time - an understanding that is more acceptable than the current one -

No Annual World Report?

opened the january 1st wt yesterday, and - oops!

no annual world report, just the same type of study articles that are usually featured in the january 1st issues, but no mentioning of countries or figures.. are the figues saved for the yearbooks only?

Still it is puzzling why they didn't get in the Jan 1st.

Most of the time there is nothing to these things - but who knows. I think there is most likely some change in the format - maybe to give a good spin on some negative numbers.

I have heard of some things that alledgedly happened in which no one was ever notified - like the time they sent out the 'blood cards' with a new twist - the allowance of using one's own blood in surgery - then they pulled them all back to HQ and re-issued ones with out that proviso -

So who knows -

Will Commentary press send CoC anonymously?

i'm wondering - if i want to send a copy of coc to an old friend - and send a money order and mailing address to commentary press - would the book be sent to the person with them being unable to find out who sent it?

i found out that an old friend is df'ed but trying to get reinstated.

i just want him to have something to think about while he sits in shame at the back of the hall.

Commentary Press has an email address - I am sure that Ray would send it anyway you want it delivered if u email and ask him - his email is backed up a ways most of the time - so allow a couple weeks for him to answer -

i knew the family - were told that the fall was an accident - i am not sure of that, i know he was depressed.

Dansk, I am new to these boards, but extend my besh wishes to you in your illness - I was unaware.

Regarding the book - I have just now ordered Penton's other book - Apocalypse Delayed - I am running behind with all these well written historicals coming out. I have only left the Borg in the past few months, and just found these boards recently!

this one looks to be a major expose - hope that it gets into the hands of all who need that extra boost to move out of the movement!

The typical witness dictum by the elders in cases of abuse is "pray more, draw closer to the congregation, study." They miss all the real issues -

I had an experience with a sister who was being abused - the elders would not give her any help - she confided that she was about to commit suicide - and still no help - my wife and I were demonized by the local PO for giving her a shoulder to cry on - I was even subtly accused of setting myself and her up for fornication - All for being a friend in need.

There is just no way that these untrained, uneducated, and uncaring men should be shepherding 'the flock'. It is a real travesty!

Too many wasted lives have been reported here!

New 607 info?

i just discovered something i have not seen anywhere before.

i was looking at my old "all scripture inspired" book, and i say old because it was the first edition from 1963 and i had used it for years.

according to the wt cd there were revisions in 1983 and 1990. i came across this little goodie under the book of daniel.

Dates are important to the WTBTS, obviously. Otherwise why have they declared 1799,1844,1881,1884,1914,1915,1920,1921,1925,1935,1940's,1975 all as significant? The organization sprung out of the Adventist movements in the early 1800's - that is what Adventist and Millennialist believe in - dates! By the way, they missed every one of them! Seems like the mouthpiece of God would get something right, doesn't it?
The entire basis for the claim that the WTBTS is God's mouthpiece is predicated on the date 607 BCE - which lead to 1914 - which lead to 1918. IF 607 is disproved, then the entire claim and most of the books explaining prophecy of Revelation become extinct and innaccurate. And the claim of exclusivity is thrown out the window. Making Jehovah's witnesses just another of the hundreds of upstart religions that sprang up in the 19th century. Maybe this explains the insistence of always denying that they were wrong about 607, in spite of mountains of evidence to the contrary? Hmmmmm? The evidence was presented to them in the 1970's and they disfellowshipped the man who showed them - and any others that dared to agree that something was amiss here. I suggest that you read Carl Olof Jonnson's book "The Gentile Times Reconsidered" - it proves beyond any reasonable doubt that they have had that date wrong all along -

As for your comment about treating others as Christ would. Christ never shunned persons that had sinned in some way - he certainly never set us rules to shun anyone. He did not preach in the fashion that JW's do. He would not have joined the local United Nations NGO (if there had been one), and then covered it up and lied to all that asked about it, would he? He spoke and showed love to persons of all sorts, even the most notorious sinners. He did not draw off to the little room in the back of hall with two of his disciples - form a judicial committee -and then disfellowship someone in 15 minutes who had dedicated his/her whole life to him, did he? He did not feel a need to chastise and destroy the Christian reputation of someone when he decided to leave him, did he? Calling him some evil name - like Apostate? No, the organization has not done what you claim here. They have not done well in imitation of Jesus.
And as far as your earlier assertions about use of the Bible - I use it everyday - 15 translations of it in German, Spanish and English are now 4 feet from my desk. I spent 35 years of my life loving the Bible and it's Author. I will do so till the day I die. But I left this organization because it cannot be the truth. The truth and the lie are opposites! And I have seen the lies for most of my 50 years and didn't know it. I was like you, blinded by the lies substituting as truth. I am now 50, alone, shunned, and hurting everyday. But I left because my conscience would not permit me to stay and share responsibility for lying to others. Do you honestly think that we have nothing better to do except sit around and attack the religion that many of us gave our lives to?
Do some research - not in the pages of the Wt - they will only tickle your ears and make you think you have the 'truth'. Read Franz' books, or Penton's, or Jonnsons. Or listen to what is here - with a filter if u need to - some of which I do not agree with either. But check it out. Quit defending long enough to see if there is something worth defending here. Otherwise you may be 50, lonely, shunned, and hurting, yourself someday. And wishing that you had listened before you were!

May the True God bless you if u do as the Wt tells you to do: EXAMINE YOUR RELIGION! They even have a brochure by that name - but witnesses never do it - they just tell others to do so. Listen to your own advise - it means your life!
